Each Spring, the Showdown begins with hundreds of local talent contests sponsored by country music radio stations throughout the United States.
Winners advance to their respective State competitions held at leading fairs and expositions.
Acts then compete for a $1,000 prize, the State Title and the chance to advance to one of six Regional Finals.
It's the last step before the prestigious National Final, which is televised to a national audience from country music's most exciting venues, like the stage of the Grand Ole Opry House (1990/91/98/99/00/01), the Grand Palace Theater (1992/93) in Branson, the Historic Ryman Auditorium (1994), Epcot at Walt DisneyWorld (1995/96) or Universal Studios Florida (1997).
Through radio and television broadcasts, audiences from coast-to-coast cheer on the Regional winners, the best of the best, as they compete for the Grand Prize of $100,000, and the National Title.

There is a $10 entry fee per act and all contestants must begin their competition by performing at Showdowns produced by participating country music radio stations.
A uniform judging system on all levels of competition ensures fairness.
