"Flyboys - A True Story of Courage"

by James Bradley

This was an excellent read on all levels. James Bradley is an excellent author who can tell history in a way that doesn't make you nod off! This story is about a group of "Flyboys" or "Devils" - American Fighter and Bomber pilots who were captured on Chichi Jima, an Island near Iwo Jima that served as a Japanese radio outpost. The Flyboy's story isn't the only interesting one in this book however, as Bradley tells the story of the air-war from the point of view of both Americans and Japanese. Bradley also tells of his many interviews with Japanese and American flyboys (including George Bush Sr.) during his research for the book. I have always been a history buff, but I haven't really had too much interest in WWII. However Bradley tells such an awe inspiring tale that it quickly caught my attention and held it. I would recommend this volume to anyone who can appreciate a good story - especially if you have relatives who may have fought in the great war.
