(State)...The California Supreme Court will hear oral arguments next Wednesday
in the on-going debate about furloughs and whether they're legal. 200,000 workers
have given up weeks of time over the last 18 months--time that translates into
$3Billion dollars that has been removed from paychecks and the state economy.
Lawyers from both sides will have 45 minutes to state their respective cases in the
matter--most issues get 15 minutes for each argument. From there the Justices
have 90 days to issue a ruling.
(Blairsden)...Plumas-Eureka State Park campgrounds have re-opened after
state health workers worked to control fleas that are being blamed for one case
of plague discovered nearly a month ago. Day use facilities have remained open
during that time. Most Northern California facilities will be open and packed to
the brim over this last of Summer weekends. Most area lakes are to the brim,
with Almanor at 99 percent and Antelope at 85 percent capacity. Only Eagle
Lake continues to present boat launch problems.
(Quincy)...Another mixed economic bag of results for a premier Fair event
this year. The Plumas Sierra Fair saw improvement in concession salesl, largely
due to a revenue percentage collected from vendors. But Grandstand shows
attendance was lackluster. The headliner act only generated a little over $5,000
in revenue, as opposed to the projected income of $40,000. The previous night
showed a sellout for the Trailor Choir in Siskiyou County. Officials say this year's
fair may have broken even.
